Travelogue : Hong Kong @ Australian Dairy Company 澳洲牛奶公司

I am sure there are two groups of reader right now, the one who thinks that I...
  1. did some error by writing "Australian" on the title
  2. am writing a post about a dairy company from Australia
It doesn't matter which group you are in, because neither one of you have guessed correctly!
I have no idea about the origin of the name but isn't it a puzzle to name a cafe the name which has nothing to do with either Australia or dairy products at all. French Fries anyone? (geddit?)

Australian Dairy Company  (澳洲牛奶公司) has been one of the well-known cafe in Hong Kong for its Scrambled Eggs and Steamed Egg White Pudding with Milk. A trip to Hong Kong would be considered incomplete without paying a visit to this cafe. The queue was still bearable as it was cleared pretty fast considered that we were seated within 15 mins although we had more than 20 people lined up before us.

As you can see from picture #4, the cafe is not very spacious. Different visitors have to jam in a table if there is any empty seat. Not even a single seat is left unseated for more than 30 seconds. The waiters (in white uniform) have relatively high efficiency in arranging seats, taking orders, serving, clearing of plates the table and tallying the bills. Everything seems to be moving in high speed inside the cafe and I personally think that the foods were served faster than a fast-food restaurant!

Milk Tea

We ordered the breakfast set (HKD28) consisting of a bowl of macaroni soup with ham, toast with fried egg and milk tea. Everything is just so simple but blissful. I will not sad that this is the best brunch ever but I do miss having it in an old school style. Actually we should ordered the scrambled egg but I think the waiter made a mistake by serving us the same set. The sunny side up is still satisfactory, however I would prefer for a runnier yolk. The macaroni was so-so, nothing to fuss about while the milk tea was so rich that I find it hard to finish. Maybe the local likes their milk tea rich and thick? I would prefer more milk be added so that it will taste milder and creamier.

Last but not the least, their signature dish, the Steamed Egg White Pudding with Milk. At first glance, I thought that I would give up by just having one or two mouthful of it because it look colourless and unattractive at all. However after having one spoonful of it, I was totally fascinated and the next thing I know is the bowl was half emptied. The combination of milk and egg white is proportionate and taste so smooth while it's gliding down your throat.

It might be a good try if you are in Hong Kong. Don't be freak out by the queue as you will be served by the time you found a WiFi connection (just kidding, no WiFi nearby). And don't mind the rude waiters. They worked non-stop since morning and it's their duty to serve their customer with fast and efficiently right? Not to mention that the queue is never ending.
